Terminology

- authority having jurisdiction (AHJ): The person or organization responsible for making sure rules, codes, and laws are followed. They have the power to approve work, inspect it, and enforce safety standards. (Section C-4.1)
- building code: A set of rules that tells you how buildings must be built to keep people safe. (Section C-4.1)
- CANDU (Canada Deuterium Uranium): A type of nuclear power system made in Canada that uses heat to make electricity. (Section C-4.1)
- certification: Proof that something meets certain rules or standards. (Section C-4.1)
- code: A set of rules that must be followed by law to keep people safe. (Section C-4.2)
- compliance: Following rules, laws, or standards. (Section C-4.1)
- enforcement: Actions taken to make sure rules are followed, such as fines or license suspension. (Section C-4.1)
- harmonize: To make different rules or systems work the same way. (Section C-4.1)
- inspection: A check to make sure work is done correctly and safely. (Section C-4.1)
